In today’s video I am going to show you how to handle those tricky short balls.
There is a good chance you have been coached wrong on this shot. I have heard it over and over that players are told to get set when they hit the ball and that they shouldn’t move through their shots.
I have news for you…one of the best ways to improve your transition game is to keep moving….
You are able to get closer to the net, it’s easier to keep your balance, and you are able to hit the ball with more effortless power.
I hope you enjoyed the video and let me know how I can help you improve your tennis by leaving a facebook comment below…
Thanks and I will talk t0 you soon…Jeff
Hey everyone, Jeff Salzenstein here. And in this video, we’re going to talk about the footwork pattern.
We’ve been talking a lot about the return, the serve and different strokes that I’m teaching everyday and that you can study with the pros, but I wanted to go through a footwork pattern today that I have seen the entire Australian Open. I see it. All the players, when the ball come short to them, how they handle the short ball. And it’s called ‘the run through footwork pattern’ or I call it the ‘run through footwork pattern.’
Basically what you’re going to do is when the ball comes short, you are going to jog through as you hit the shot or run through as you hit the shot. And a lot of players and coaches are doing the wrong thing. They are actually telling players to stop before they hit the shot or players are actually stopping themselves even if they’re not being coached and that forces you to lunge forward, fall off balance.
If you watch all the best pros, all the top guys, Federer, Jovovich, Murray, all the girls, Clijsters, they’re all moving through the short balls. So they’re not running to the ball, they’re running through the ball. It’s a very elegant graceful shot when you do it correctly.
And actually, we’re finishing up a project that’s going to really help you with your forehand. It’s going to be released in a month or two. And we are incorporating this footwork pattern into the program so you’re going to want to check that out.
But again when the ball comes short, focus on running up to the ball, running through the ball, instead of slowing down and stopping, and you’re going to handle those tricky low slices.
So hopefully you enjoyed this video, you learned a thing or two about footwork and how it’s different than maybe what you’ve been taught from traditional teaching or traditional coaches. So keep moving through those shots going up to the net and you’re going to play better tennis.
